At the launch of the One Roof 4.0 project, the new Bomi Italia initiative that will lead to the birth, by 2019, of the first Italian healthcare centre characterized by total energy independence. An ambitious initiative that combines the principles of Industry 4.0 with those of environmental sustainability and which provides for an economic investment of around € 14.5 million. One Roof 4.0, which will be built in Spino d'Adda, aims to be a logistics hub and a highly innovative distribution centre. "The focus on sustainability - explains Marco Ruini, Managing Director of Bomi Italia - is a priority, we are a company that deals with health responsibly and with care." To testify to the company's commitment to environmental sustainability issues is also the recent recognition received for Bo-Green. This is an initiative carried out with one of its clients in the dialysis sector, aimed at creating a sustainability plan capable of generating value throughout the entire health sector, involving all stakeholders and bringing benefit to the final customer, the home therapy patient. A project that earned Bomi Italia the 'Logistics of the Year' award, created and organised by Assologistica, Assologistica Cultura e Formazione and by the monthly Euromerci, with the aim of highlighting businesses and managers who have made innovation the strong point of their operations. How did One Roof 4.0 come about? The idea was born about a year ago, as an answer to our need to equip ourselves with a tool that we can use for the growth of the company and to help our entry into SOS-Log. One Roof 4.0 puts both our business needs and those linked to sustainability issues, into the system. It is the result of long research, focused precisely on the need to be self-sufficient from the point of view of energy. How will you achieve this goal? We want to be equipped with a large photovoltaic system for the production of energy and a geothermal system for heating. Furthermore, we are of the opinion that the main source of energy will be capable of carrying out all company activities and those expressed by our employees. For this reason, the new plant will also feature a 'company park', equipped with green areas, dedicated to employees and collaborators. An investment in the productivity and well-being of our workforce. With One Roof 4.0, the Fourth Industrial Revolution meets sustainability. What is this project about? Looking towards 2030, this represents the first step of a strategy that will take us far to grow and become a reference point for healthcare. We are building a beautiful house, not luxurious but welcoming, where we can build our future with one initiative after another. A new business model in the logistics world. It is also characterised by a strong focus on innovativation. How will this be expressed? Inside the new warehouse we will take advantage of new pieces of technology, with the use of robotic solutions along some production lines and augmented reality. Sustainability, with the adoption of this different technology, also translates easily into economic sustainability, with an important reduction in costs. When will it be operational? The delivery is scheduled for 2019. We plan to transfer the activities in the autumn to the new centre. We want to be a point of reference also for our foreign partners. A new business model to be copied in its innovative and sustainable solutions. What are the other projects that Bomi is currently pursuing? The construction of the new centre must not distract us from the other work. Among the priorities is always internationalisation, we continue, in the wake of acquisitions, to look around carefully. We are the market leader in Latin America and our presence is also growing in Europe and China. We are studying a long-term project involving the United States, a very large market that must be approached with caution.
